Glyssen's green skin was slick with what appeared to be water. It was actually a gel secreted by her sweat glands to protect her skin from the dry air. Her red eyes were covered by a transparent film, some would call it a second eyelid. Her long brown hair fell in knotted clumps down her back, almost resembling seaweed. She was sixty seasons old, fifteen human years, and she knew she would Be dying within the next year, as did all of her kind. She hid in an alleyway watching humans walk by, their strange ears protruding where she had none. She tightened her slippery fingertips around her hood that covered her face and protected her from curious human glances. She did not dislike humans - in fact, she had fallen in love with a human in the past - but she did not wish to ever Join them permanently above the water, as some of her family had done. They had bleached their skin, it was extremely painful, and used magic to color their eyes and had easily fit it as long as they kept their hair long enough to cover their ears. She could never do that... She loved the water too much. Her seaweed home was not much, but it was away from the loudness of the city.
