just yea....

She pressed the phone gently against her ear.

"Do you want to meet at the park or go for a drive or something?" She asked, sympathy softening her words.
"Yea," The male voice paused, sounding slightly uncertain. "I'll meet you at the park in five." She heard the phone click and dropped it on her bed. She slipped a sweater over her pyjamas and slipped on flipflops before pulling open her window and slippnig the screen out. Placing it carefully against the wall she lifted herself up onto the roof. The cool midnight air licked her bare cheeks. She pulled a single brown ringlet behind her ear as she slipped from the roof to the roof of her dad's truck, then to its bed, and finally to the ground. She snuck silently to the side of her house where a blue neon sat.

In a few minutes she was parked by a small park. She got out and walked slowly to a platform where she was mostly visible. She watched a boy with dark skin and green eyes approach the park. Her dropped the bike on the grass, shoved his hands into his jean pockets, then sauntered over to where she was sitting. He stood for a moment, then she patted a spot beside her and he sat. They didn't say anything for a moment. They just watched the silhouettes and shadows float around them and the stars glow above them.

Finally he spoke, glancing at her blue eyes for a moment.
"It sucks," He whispered. She returned the glance, but he had already looked away.
"I bet," was all she said. Although overflowing with compassion, she could never find the words to say to express this emotion. There was a long silence after that. They watched a cat pass from the slide to the swings, then around and under a bench.
"You know what I hate most about it?" He hissed. She shook her head. "Everyone ditched me. As soon as anything happened, they all left!" His anger echoed between them, an invisible ball bouncing around the platform, smashing and breaking everything in its path. She looked down.
"They just didn't know what to do... I didn't know what to do either," She admitted.
"Yea, but you didn't just sit and watch me crash and burn. At least you stayed so I had - have someone to yell at." There was another pause.
"I don't think they meant to. It's just - you know... what would you do if it happened to one of your friends?" She asked. He thought about it for a bit before answering quietly.
"Well I wouldn't have just left them out in the cold." She bit her lip at his remark. It was true... She didn't understand how his friends had just left him alone to deal with it when he clearly wanted to talk to someone.
"But I guess that's just cuz they're guys, hey? That's why you stayed. You're a chick. You talk about stuff and all that gay stuff," He said. She let out a half hearted, short lived chuckle. "Well you do!" He protested.
"Well you don't seem to have much trouble talking either," She pointed out.
"And that's why you called me a chick."
"Hey no way I called you a chick cuz you called me a man!" She cried and they both started laughing.
"But its not the first time you've been called a man," He reminded her.
"No, not really. But most of the time they were kidding."
"I wasn't."
"I know. And I wasn't kidding when I called you a chick."
"I know." There was another silence.
"Thanks," He said.
"For what?"
"Coming. Answering my call. Not backing out. You know. Just being my friend," He whispered. She smiled.
"I was just repaying the favor," She answered. She looked over at him and saw that he was looking at her too.
"You know what's the best about you?" He asked. Sort of shocked at this question she just shook her head.
"You are the only girl I know who I've been friends with for so long that hasn't had a crush on me and hasn't, you know, gone all crazy pms-tic when I didn't like her back."
"Well, we decided pretty early on that our relationship would go Brittney Spears if we tried it," She said. They both smiled at the momory of that conversation. They didn't say anything for awhile, and before she knew it he was asleep on her shoulder, but the thought barely passed through her mind before she too gave into fatigue.
